"Punch" Circa 1973. This band actually had roots back to a soul/horn band called
'The East Coast Men' who changed their name to
'August'. Later they made some changes and added R. B. Sharp (guitar/vocals) and Tom Cali on drums. After about 7 or 8 months
they got rid of the horn section; bought out the bandleader, and renamed it
'Punch' They did everything from "Dreams", "Whipping Post" and "One Way Out" by the 'Allman Bros.'; "Jungle Walk" by the 'Rascals'; "Funky Stuff" by 'Kool & the Gang'; "Stratus" by Billy Cobham to stuff by Marvin Gaye and Harold Melvin. Later on, Nick Bonis replaced Bill Ellis on bass and
they donned 'Leisure Suits' and did an Average White Band set (w/ guitars instead of horns). |
